Rana ABSTRACT: 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is one of the most commonly used chemotherapeutic agents for the systemic treatment of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, breast, head, and neck. The aim of our study was to determine the rational use of 5-FU on breast cancer patients and in chemotherapy, and to observe rational measures like individualized dose adjustment, use of approved chemotherapy protocols, drug utilization review and better system for chemotherapy waste disposal. The results provide some evidence of the lack of awareness on the part of patients and the staff members of the health care team. Public awareness should be promoted.
